Biography
Biography
Julius Caesar, born Gaius Julius Caesar on July 12, 100 BCE, was a Roman general, statesman, and a pivotal figure in the events that led to the demise of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire.
He quickly ascended the ranks of Roman politics due to his military brilliance, political acumen, and charismatic leadership.
Caesar's growing power and influence led to tensions with the Senate and Pompey, resulting in a civil war in 49 BCE. After decisively defeating Pompey and his allies, Caesar assumed control of Rome and was appointed dictator perpetuo (dictator in perpetuity) in 44 BCE. He initiated a series of reforms aimed at centralizing the bureaucracy, restructuring debt, and expanding the Senate.
However, Caesar's concentration of power and the perception that he aimed to become a monarch led to his assassination on the Ides of March (March 15) 44 BCE by a group of senators, including his close friend Brutus. His death marked the end of the Roman Republic and paved the way for the rise of the Roman Empire under his adopted heir, Octavian (later Augustus).

The Original Masterpiece
This statue of Caesar was created in Rome in the year 110 AD during the reign of Emperor Trajan. It is a replica of a bust created in the year 50 BC, meaning the depiction was made while Caesar was still alive. The sculpture is made from marble.
Caesar is depicted with an authoritative and determined complexion. The sculpture also highlights the signs of aging, such as lines on his forehead and around his eyes, reflecting the Roman artistic tradition of verism, which emphasized realistic and individualized portrayals.
The bust is currently housed in the National Archeological Museum of Naples, where it may be viewed by the public.
